The price of a handmade kanun cannot be reduced to a single figure. Because every instrument is built to order, the price depends on the model, the string count, the wood, the decoration and the delivery time. Below are the factors that set the price and how to get a clear quote from the workshop.
What drives the price
Model and setup: our 26-course professional kanuns share the same technical base; wood selection, edge work and finish vary from one model to the next. Options such as the fully hand-applied shellac special production are a step further in workmanship.
String count and size: standard full-size kanuns have 26 courses. For junior (travel-size) kanuns, the dimensions and string count are set to your needs.
Wood: sycamore or spruce for the soundboard; linden, walnut, mahogany or maple for the body. Aged, properly rested timber affects the cost.
Decoration and workmanship: as mother-of-pearl inlay, carving and hand detailing increase, so do the build time and the price.
Fittings: the quality of the lever system, pegs, strings and skin, plus the case, tuning key and plectra included in the package.

The instrument is played in over several days before delivery, so it arrives with the tuning settled and every check completed.
